Problem Statement

As African music and talents continue to attract the world’s attention, the industry’s business side still needs to catch up. The Uganda National Development Action Plan (NDPII,2014/15-2019/20) identifies the Uganda Culture and creative industries as an opportunity to fast track Uganda’s development agenda Vision 2040. Despite it’s potential to contribute to the growth of the economy, employment creation and income generation Uganda’s creative industry is largely informal. The Uganda National Development Action Plan (NDPII) sights the need to train and build capacity for the industry stakeholders if the country is to exploit its full potential.
Uganda performer’s rights society (UPRS) forecasts over 500,000 jobs to be created by the creative arts industry by 2030. However, there’ still Inadequate professional capacity, industry players have limited formal training which affects their marketability and competitiveness and there’s a slow adaptation to new technological trends which limits their ability to compete or even earn from their creative works. The Creative arts fellowship program seeks to address these gaps.
The Purple Skills Klinic Foundation offers a real opportunity to reframe the discussion and action around youth unemployment in Uganda particularly giving support to budding creatives using innovative approaches to foster job creation and open employment opportunities in the creative arts sector.
